Detour

A few days ago this appeared in front of our house:
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the area this is what you will find if you follow that Detour sign.
What I want to know is this: if a citizen who is trying their best to obey the law tries to take that sign literally who would be at fault when they run into our nice neighbor's yard? The driver ... or the construction workers who placed it there? Interesting and profound points to ponder.
